Nature’s Door

“Not knowing when the dawn will come I open every door.”

Emily Dickinson

We visited the Amalfi Coast on our honeymoon twenty-five years ago.  One distinct memory was the colorful tiles which hung aside the front door of each hillside dwelling displaying the home’s number.  Each different in theme and no doubt chosen to reflect the personality of the resident.  The majority were bright and colorful alike the ubiquitous lemon trees for which the region is known.  This door, with its weathered wood and ivy framework portrayed a cool serenity. Its simple beauty proving nature to be the preferred decorator.

I am an ex New Yorker who still misses the vibrancy of the city. I seek out the humor in every day life and relay it through my stories in the hope others will appreciate as well. I love to write about growing up with my fantastically unique Irish mother whose memory inspires me every day. Although she is no longer with us, her antics are an endless staple for my tales. I currently live in Connecticut with my husband, two sons and toy fox terrier Anabel.

  1. I thought I was the only quirk who shoots doors! I have photos of doors I’ve taken around the world, and many in my hometown of Philly I plan for an article in an upcoming edition of the Schuylkill Valley Journal. One particularly cool door is a wooden one also opening to Cruz Bay in St John. You can see it in Running in Paradise on rite2run.wordpress.com Thank you for your very cool post!

  2. Thanks Jim. I love doors. I have image of the doors of Dublin in my mind from a childhood visit and would love to capture once again. I will check out your Cruz Bay door. Visited St. John many years ago and loved the vibe. I encourage you to post that door shot in the “Thursday Doors” challenge site for others to appreciate!
